For the third instalment in his Barrs series, Bristol bass music pioneer Gemmy revisits 2022’s late summer UKG smasher ‘Nice It', returning with a brand new remix courtesy of Burna, and the previously unreleased instrumental version.

Burna is the Australian producer who has been setting the UK Funky scene alight with a barrage of releases on the Nasty Bros imprint, showcasing his grimy take on the genre. He flips ‘Nice It’ in a far darker, more percussive direction, with the drums very much to the front - all the while leaving space for MCs Dread & Shantie to shine.

Any aficionado of UK bass music should need little introduction to thes two vocalists – Dread is one of the hardest working artists and hosts in the scene, as his recently released Crucast album and relentless touring schedule demonstrate. Sparring partner Shantie is a mainstay of the UK Funky world, hosting shows across Europe alongside Marcus Nasty, and adding his unique cockney stylings to anthems such as Champion’s ‘Running It Red’. Like Burna he’s also a member of the multi-faceted Nasty Bros collective.

The ‘Barrs’ series allows Gemmy to channel his formative years as a UK Garage head, away from the Dubstep sound he’s best known for. Here he melds his signature bassline sounds with classic two-step grooves on the sought-after and previously unreleased instrumental version of the original track. After a quiet start to 2023 release-wise, Gemmy is gearing up to end the year on a high. The ‘Nice It’ remix package comes hot on the heels of last month’s collaboration with Grime legend Trim, ‘Appstore’, and ahead of the launch of a new monthly series of instrumental 140 singles.
