about

Bristol bass music pioneer Gemmy returns with ‘Nice It’, alongside Dread MC & Shantie, the second release in the ‘Barrs’ series on his Gemmy Music imprint.

Whilst best known for his work in Dubstep as one of the architects of his hometown’s beloved ‘purple sound’, on the ‘Barrs’ releases Gemmy channels his formative years as a UK Garage head; melding his signature bassline sounds with classic two-step grooves as a backdrop for Dread MC & Shantie’s unapologetically good time bars.

Any aficionado of UK bass music should need little introduction to the two featured vocalists either – Dread is one of the hardest working artists and hosts in the scene, as his recently released Crucast album and relentless touring schedule alongside the likes of My Nu Leng, Shy FX, Voltage & Clipz can attest to. Sparring partner Shantie has been a long-time mainstay of the UK Funky world, hosting shows across Europe alongside Marcus Nasty, and adding his unique cockney stylings to anthems such as Champion’s ‘Running It Red’.

‘Nice It’ is another strong addition to Gemmy’s discography over the past 12 months – following on from recent dubstep offerings on Infernal Sounds and Vantage, and of course the inaugural Gemmy Music release late in 2021, showcasing a powerful and unique talent who is now back in earnest.
